Cairngorms Farmers Market & Foodie Events
Aviemore and the Cairngorms are full of traditional highland food and drink ripe for the tasting. From farm-fresh fruit and vegetables to whisky and homemade fudge to a warm bowl of porridge, there’s an event or shop where you can buy and taste what’s on offer in Scotland’s bountiful larder.
Cairngorms Farmers Market
This Sunday September 4th sees the Cairngorms Farmers Market head to Motor Mania at Grantown-on-Spey. Take home a real taste of the Cairngorms every second Sunday from 10am to 4pm (in season).
Regular stallholders sell fresh veg and produce, Farm Assured meat, locally grown tea, beer and a range of arts and crafts. Pick up some locally made cheeses, hand-made Belgian chocolate, seasonal cask beer from the Cairngorm brewery, jewellery, soaps, candles and much more.
The Square, Grantown-on-Spey is a 30-minute drive from Hilton Coylumbridge.
Rothiemurchas Estate Farm Shop
This farm shop was voted ‘one of the six best farms shops in the UK’ by the Mail on Sunday. It boasts high quality meat, local cheeses, craft beer, whisky, fish, heather honey and artisan products such as hand-made chocolates, fudge, bakery items, chutneys, preserves and much more. This shop is perfect for making a delicious picnic before a walk or cycle in the Cairngorms, or for taking home a taste of the Highlands.
Rothiemurchas is across the road from the hotel and you can reach the shop via a scenic 10-minute walk.
World Porridge Making Championship
2016’s World Porridge Making Championship takes place in Carrbridge in the Cairngorms National Park on Saturday 8th October. Porridge-makers from around the world battle it out to take home the coveted Golden Spurtle trophy and title of ‘World Porridge Making Champion’. Entries are still open to take part in the competition, which seeks to find the best bowl of porridge made from three simple ingredients – oats, water and salt.

Follow some food and drink trails throughout the Cairngorms National Park and discover local delicacies and special dishes, such as fresh wild venison, locally distilled whisky, Scottish ice cream, shortbread and more. There are four trails, encompassing Grantown-on-Spey, Glenlivet, Ballater, Pitlochry, Kingussie, Aviemore and many small towns and villages in between.

Whisky Tasting on the Strathspey Steam Railway
Catch the Strathspey Steam Railway from Aviemore and enjoy six whisky tastings from the distilleries associated with the ‘Speyside Whisky Line’. The event is led by Steve Oliver and ends with a visit to the Whisky Castle in Tomintoul.
