The Corrieyairack Challenge 2017

Posted by Hilton Coylumbridge, June, 2017

Spending time in the Scottish Highlands, on any given day, is an unforgettable experience. However, taking part in a charity sporting event – running for over twenty years – that follows the breathtaking trail of Bonnie Prince Charlie is a highland experience that can’t be missed.

On July 1, walk, run or cycle the 50-mile Corrieyairack Challenge to raise funds for Speyside Trust’s Badaguish Centre, which helps people with disabilities enjoy outdoor holidays in the Cairngorms National Park.

Badaguish Centre

  • Accessible accommodation for clubs, schools and families
  • Outdoor activities led by nationally qualified instructors
  • A secluded setting in Glenmore Forest

Corrieyairack Challenge

The day begins at 6am with free porridge for participants. Fuel up, register and get ready for the 9.30am gun start at Fort Augustus. Transport is provided for bikes and entrants.

The Hill: Begin the first 11.5 miles on Ardachy Road, which is well-signed and marshalled. The wide mountain track has three watering stations on the climb and a final watering station and checkpoint at the summit. The descent is steep as you head towards the changeover point and water-stop at Melgarve.

The Changeover: You’ll be directed towards refreshments and the tyre change as stewards help you get back on the route as quickly and safely as possible. Toilets and changing screens are available as well as medical professionals and a 'bike doctor’.

Hill walk competitors will be checked in before boarding the bus to Badaguish. All baggage and kit will be transported to the Badaguish finish line.

The Road: Begin the final 38.5 miles across 10 miles of single track road. Continue to the A86 at Laggan - with a water-stop and toilets. Follow the A86 to Newtonmore, then on to Kingussie, where the route turns onto the B970. Head over the River Spey before travelling through Insh and Feshiebridge to Inverdruie. Turn right onto Ski Road towards the 2526 ft summit and a warm welcome at the finish!
