Fun Things to Do in the Snow
A haven for snowsports, the Cairngorms have long been a preferred destination for skiers, however, skiing is not the only fun thing you can do in the snow! Here is a round up of our favourite snowy past-times.
Exhilarating, fast-paced fun! Throw yourself head-first into a day of sledging at Hayfield, a safe spot for some sledging, just a few minutes from Aviemore. Kids and adults love it, especially since it requires no training or lessons. Hilton Coylumbridge offers a rental service for sledges so you can get started right away.
Build a Snowman (or something else)
Whether you call him Frosty or Mr. Snowman, there is nothing more magical than building a snowman with your family. If you want to do something a little different then try making a snow caterpillar – simply line up large snowballs in a row and use sticks to make feelers and stones to make eyes.
Clues of Local Visitors
The Cairngorms National Park is a great place for spotting animals and birds but many of the local residents are a little shy. Take a walk around the hotel and hunt for animal footprints in the snow – maybe you’ll spot the markings of pine martens or red deer!
A Snowball Fight
Throw a couple of snowballs or bathe someone is a shower of snow; the fun of playing in the snow is immeasurable.
Make Snow Angels
Find a spot with undisturbed snow and lie down, move your arms and legs and that’s it!
Over the winter months, our hotel has an on-site mini-skating rink. Let the little ones try out skating while you snap some wonderful memories.
Feed the Ducks
Kids will love feeding the ducks at snowy Loch Morlich. The views of the icy landscape are breathtaking and something you will all remember for years to come.
There are many reasons to take the funicular railway to the top of Cairngorm Mountain. You can go skiing or snowboarding or dine at the highest restaurant in the UK, Ptarmigan. Our favourite thing to do there is to take funny pictures and take in the spectacular views.
Book your trip to Hilton Coylumbridge now and delight in the joys of snowy Aviemore.
