Is Your Heart in the Highlands?

Is Your Heart in the Highlands?

Posted by Hilton Coylumbridge, April, 2016

Spring has truly sprung here in Aviemore and these beautiful words by Robert Burns are so fitting at this time of year, don’t you think?

“My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer;
Chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go.”

Stay with us at Hilton Coylumbridge this spring and you too could be “chasing the wild-deer” with Cairngorm Reindeer Centre – Britain’s only free-ranging reindeer herd. They offer daily guided tours and the animals are relaxed around humans – so bring your camera.

Or maybe you’d prefer to watch the red squirrels, who provide free entertainment in the woods around the hotel. Find a quiet spot and watch the show unfold as they scurry around and leap from tree to tree. They’re nuts about jumping!

If your heart’s in the Highlands, springtime is one of the best times of year to visit. Why not tell us (and send photos of) why the Highlands steals your heart?

Better still, join us for a Spring Prosecco Break! We’re offering two-night midweek stays with dinner, breakfast and bubbly from just £108 per room and family rooms from £148 per night. Now we'll leave you to enjoy the full poem - a classic by Burns:

My Heart's in the Highlands
My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart’s in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer;
Chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart’s in the Highlands, wherever I go.
Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth ;
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.
Farewell to the mountains, high-cover’d with snow,
Farewell to the straths and green vallies below;
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods,
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.
My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart’s in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer;
Chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart’s in the Highlands, wherever I go.
