Fun for All the Family

Once the kids have got over the excitement of Christmas it’s always a struggle to find things to keep them entertained in the winter. The Highlands has a variety of family friendly activities to suit all ages, from the junior adrenaline junkie to the train buff and animal lover.

Take a look at the list below for some of our favourite suggestions.

Revack Highland Estate- Situated in the heart of the Cairngorms, Revack offers walking trails, a custom built woodland playground and a restaurant with a delicious range of homemade treats. Revack is home to rare red squirrels as well as other wildlife indigenous to the Highlands, including oystercatchers, lapwings, skylarks and curlews.

Treezone - If you are after an action packed activity then Treezone is the place for you. Navigate your way across zip wires, balance beams, hanging platforms and tight-ropes through a forest of ancient Caledonian Pines. Embrace your inner Tarzan and cross white knuckle bridges and monster high ropes, with 34 different challenges to complete, this is a truly thrilling family adventure.

Landmark Forest Theme Park - Landmark Forest has numerous in and outdoor attractions. Bamboozeleum is a magical gallery of illusion featuring distorting mirrors, infinity rooms, morphing machines and a giant kaleidosphere. Ant City, Landmark’s adventure play activity centre is the perfect place to tire the kids out after a day of exploring all that this exciting Highland theme park has to offer.

The Fun House- The Hilton Coylumbridge is home to the fantastic Fun House, three floors of soft play slides, tunnels, mazes and a huge indoor tree house - but the fun doesn’t stop there. Play video games in the arcade, tee off for a round of minigolf and have a family competition at the ten pin bowling alley. The Fun House is the perfect destination for a rainy winter day.

Strathspey Railway - The Strathspey line covers 10 miles of preserved track from Aviemore to Broomhill via Boat of Garten. Travel back in time with a two hour tour of the Scottish Highlands aboard a historic steam train on the longest and most beautiful steam heritage railway in Scotland. If your little ones love Thomas the Tank Engine then this Steam Railway is a must see!

Rothiemurchus Estate - As one of Scotland’s leading tourist attractions, Rothiemurchus Estate is full of surprises. Discover the estate’s stunning scenery on a family mountain biking route, learn the historic art of archery, jump aboard a funky Segway or be at one with nature on the estate’s wildlife safari. Rothiemurchus is the perfect place for your kids to try new activities and experience a real Highland adventure.

Highland Wildlife Park - If you are a family of animal lovers then look no further than the fantastic Highland Wildlife Park. Meet Kitty the red panda, Elf the arctic fox and Walker & Arktos the polar bears, as well as many more of the park’s interesting and exotic animals. Make sure you check out the website to find out the animal feeding times - you don’t want to miss watching a troop of snow monkeys eat their lunch!

The Cairngorms National Park - The Cairngorms is Britain’s largest national park and as you can see from this list, it offers a huge variety of things to see and do. Take in the beautiful surroundings of the Cairngorm mountain range and head off on one of the many family friendly walking trails. Some of the routes are even buggy friendly and this is a thoroughly cost effective way to get to know the Highlands.

With so much to do, you are sure to keep the kids busy! But if the weather’s a bit chilly head inside and enjoy our indoor pool complex, relaxing spa and grab a drink at the cosy Woodshed bar.
