Plan A Family Ski Break To Aviemore

Posted by Hilton Coylumbridge, January, 2015

Mention the idea of a world-class ski holiday to most Brits and chances are they’ll dream up a far-flung jaunt to the Alps or perhaps the famed resorts of Canada. However, it’s a little known fact that the UK is home to a select few ski resorts of truly spectacular calibre, with perhaps the very best of all residing right here in the Cairngorm National Park.

Towering majestically above Aviemore, Cairngorm Mountain and much of the Scottish Highlands in general deliver some of the most incredible ski opportunities for the whole family, not to mention quite unsurpassed natural beauty. Something of a secret that seems to be as well-kept as any, the skiing on offer right here in Scotland is widely considered by the professionals to be every bit as good as that of the Swiss Alps – it’s just a case of knowing where to look for it!

So why not book one these Winter Special Offers this month and find out just how close to home the ski trip of your dream really is?

A Winter Wonderland

For hundreds of reasons and in thousands of ways, skiing in Scotland really comes into its own for families during the winter months. For active types and those simply looking to soak up the majesty of Mother Nature, there aren’t many places in the world that come close to the beauty of the Cairngorms National Park in the wintertime. And as this happens to be where the number-one ski resort in the whole of Scotland can be found, you’ll find yourself well and truly spoilt for choice!

One of the most attractive things of all about skiing in Aviemore is that the slopes generally tend to open in early December and often keep on running right up to April. There’s a wonderfully modern Funicular Mountain railway providing easy access to Ptarmigan Top Station, which sits 1,100 metres above sea level and commands spectacular views. This is also where you’ll find the highest permanently situated bar and restaurant in Britain, serving up just the goodies you’ll need to fuel a fun-filled day on the slopes.

All Ages, All Skill Levels

Never strapped a ski on before? Not a problem – the ski opportunities on offer in the Cairngorms National Park really could not be better suited to beginners. With a variety of nursery slopes on offer and some of the most experienced tutors in the country, you’ll soon find yourself looking, feeling and skiing like a pro. Speaking of which, more experienced skiers will revel in a full 30km of marked runs, not to mention a seriously thrilling snowpark for snowboarders.

Good snow conditions are largely guaranteed with the use of snow cannons when needed, so chances are no matter when you arrive, you’ll be delighted with the conditions. And when the day is over, take the kids for a hot chocolate by the fire at the wonderful Cas bar and dream of all the fun you’ll be having the next day!
