The annual Aviemore Adventure Festival returns next weekend and is going to be even bigger than before. For the first time, the festival will be incorporating outdoor activities and workshops into the weekend.

The annual festival celebrates everything Aviemore is famous for, focusing on adventure, outdoor sports and expeditions. The four-day event will see talks from some of the world’s best adventurers, as well as workshops, film screenings and a range of outdoor activities.

Adventure & Cycling: Emily Chappell

Friday 10 March 2017 – Spey Valley Cinema

Long distance cyclist Emily Chappell, who was the first woman to finish the gruelling 2016 Transcontinental Race, will be discussing her adventures in her lecture “From Wales to Japan and all the places in between”.


Cedar Wright

Extreme Session: Cedar Wright

Saturday 11 March 217 – Spey Valley Cinema

Professional rock climber and filmmaker Cedar Wright will be the guest speaker on Saturday night, discussing his adventures climbing some of the most difficult and highest rocks in the world.

The Kayaking/Watersports Session: Justine Curgenven

Sunday 12 March 2017– Spey Valley Cinema

On Sunday afternoon as part of the festival’s annual “Kayaking & Watersport” session, professional kayaker Justine Curgenven will be sharing her stories.


Mick Fowler

The Expedition Session: Mick Fowler

Sunday 12 March 2017– Spey Valley Cinema

Award-winning mountaineer and all-round adventurer, Mick Fowler will be speaking about his adventures on Sunday evening, including his latest expedition in the Himalayas to the Sersank Peak.


Get Involved in Outdoor Activities

The festival kicks off on the Thursday with a day celebrating women in sport as part of International Women’s Day. The Front Point Adventure Team will be in the Cairngorms National Park for a day of snowsports including an introduction to ski touring & split boarding. The event is aimed at encouraging and supporting more female participation in the sport.

On Saturday and Sunday morning there will be a wide range of outdoor activities for people of all ages to enjoy, including taster sessions in:

  • Paddle boarding
  • Canoeing
  • Mountain biking
  • Rock-climbing
  • Packrafting


Reel Rock


Each day the festival will be showing a series of films about the great outdoors at the Spey Valley Cinema. Highlights at this year’s festival include:

  • The Fledgling, by guest speaker Cedar Wright, which documents Cedar and professional flier Matt Henzi’s climb and flight off Pico de Orizaba.
  • Young Guns, which will be shown on Sunday morning, tells the story of two new faces to the climbing world, 15-year-old Ashima Shiraishi and 16-year-old Kai Lightner.
