The Cairngorms National Park has always been a hub of fantastic wildlife and natural heritage. This spring, get up close and personal with all it has to offer with over 50 park-wide activities.

From nature novices to seasoned outdoor-adventurers – there are activities for everyone at the family-friendly Cairngorms Nature BIG weekend. Stop by the four main centres across the park for unique activities. Most events are free, but remember to book tickets early to secure your place.


Badenoch & Strathspey

Designed with kids in mind, head down to the Loch Garten Osprey Centre as author Emily Dodds reads her new book “Ollie and the Otter”. Fancy something geared towards grown-ups? Sample a dram and listen to a talk lead by Geoff Allan, author of Scottish Bothy Bible.

  • Pine Martens & Red Squirrels – how to survey them

Blair Atholl

If you head down to the woods on Saturday 13th May, you’re sure to find TV nature presenter, Nick Baker, hosting a ‘minibeast safari’. Later, join him as he shares his amazing stories of creature-hunting across the globe. When hunger strikes, grab something from Nature’s Larder who are serving up Scottish fare and leading a foraging walk.

Glen Tanar & Upper Deeside

The whole family can try their hand at neolithic firemaking or learn bird box making skills to replicate at home. For photography lovers, renowned nature photographer and conservationist, Peter Cairns, hosts SCOTLAND: The Big Picture in the evening.

Get a taste of what it’s like to be part of a conservationist team or head off on a hunt for wildcat trails. Learn to survive in the wild with a bushcraft lesson or peek behind-the-scenes of a working highland farm.
