Our Top 5 Scottish Christmas Gifts

Posted by Hilton Coylumbridge, November, 2014

If you’re not the kind of person who starts buying Christmas gifts in June and still haven’t started thinking about what to get your partner we’ve got a few ideas for some fantastic presents this festive season. We’re very lucky to be surrounded by the most beautiful Scottish Highlands, and think that there is some extraordinary Scottish produce and arts and crafts out there that make excellent Christmas gifts. Here are five of our favourite truly Scottish gift ideas in no particular order.

 1.     Scottish Highland beer

If you’ve got a friend or relative who’s into their beer, we’ve got a great idea for a Christmas gift: namely a visit to the Cairngorm Brewery Company that was established in Aviemore in 2001 and has won many awards for their interesting mix of traditional Scottish beers and exciting, new styles.

If you’re conveniently located within driving distance from Aviemore you could take your beer loving friend or family member on a tour of the brewery followed by a visit to the onsite shop, but the brewery also sells beer online if you prefer to just buy a few bottles. You’ve got the option of traditional recipes such as Black Gold, Wildcat and Stag or try the modern styles, such as citrus, wheat & elderflower, malty chestnut or thistle beer. Sounds intriguing, doesn’t it?

 2.     Harris Tweed bag

It doesn’t get much more Scottish than the popular Harris Tweed fabric. Harris Tweed is a cloth that’s been hand-woven by the people from the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, and protected by the Harris Tweed Act of Parliament.

Harris Tweed products can be found in shops all over Scotland, as well as online. We also sell Harris Tweed bags in our fifty/fifty hotel gift shop, so go and have a look if you’re staying with us. We particularly like the bags by Dunmore Scotland, a small family business that is passionate about supporting the country’s textile industry. They sell handmade, locally produced bags for both women and men as well as scarves, and iPad covers in Harris Tweed and Tartan. Take a look!

 3.     Gift vouchers to Hilton Coylumbridge

We’re spoiled here at Hilton Coylumbridge: we’re set in the middle of the stunning Cairngorm National Park, we’ve got access to all the outdoor activities you can imagine as well as all the facilities needed for a luxury hotel experience for both adults and children. Why not surprise your loved one/s with a Scottish Hilton experience this Christmas?

We’ve got a range of great gift vouchers for Hilton Coylumbridge, including monetary gift vouchers from £25, a dining gift voucher for dinner for two, a range of overnight vouchers starting at £85 for two people, a gift voucher for the spa and children’s activity vouchers at the Fun House. You can’t go wrong with these!

 4.     Quirky Scottish Design

If you’ve got a friend who’s into contemporary design with a splash of quirkiness we recommend you take a look at the handmade products by Glasgow-based Scottish designer Gillian Kyle. The online shop sells plates, mugs, aprons, lampshades, placemats etc. inspired by the iconic Tunnock’s teacake and caramel wafer wrapper as well as other designs. All in all many excellent gift ideas for both him and her, designed and produced in the UK.

 5.     Artisan Highland Chocolate

Christmas is an excellent excuse to indulge in chocolate – Christmas wouldn’t even be Christmas without chocolate right? And who wouldn’t love to find some exquisite artisan truffles from an award winning Master Chocolatier in their stockings? We’re talking about artisan chocolatier Iain Burnett who trained in Belgium, Switzerland and France and uses only the finest natural ingredients in his delicate products.

Any chocolate lover would be more than delighted to receive a gift from Iain’s shop the Highland Chocolatier. You can buy chocolates online, but we also recommend a visit to his gourmet shop in the picturesque village of Grandtully in Perthshire. If you’re driving up to Aviemore from Edinburgh or Glasgow it’s right on your path just before the town of Pitlochry.

Bonus tip

If you take the Funicular Railway up to CairnGorm Mountain to admire the fantastic Highland views during your stay with us you should pop in to the Ptarmigan Restaurant at the top where a Christmas Market is held every day until the end of November. Who knows, you might source a few gifts from the great selection of Christmas presents by the local suppliers who’re selling their products there…

Come and relax with us before Christmas

How about a short breather before the holiday mayhem really kicks in? We’ve got an excellent Pre-Christmas Hotel Deal that includes a two-night midweek stay, all you can eat breakfast both mornings and dinner in our Inverdruie Restaurant both evenings, as well as a sparkling bottle of Prosecco per room. All this from only £79 per room per night!
