Top 5 Crazy Things to Do when Staying at Hilton Coylumbridge

Posted by Hilton Coylumbridge, November, 2014

If you’re at all familiar with Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands you’ll probably know that there are plenty of exciting outdoor activities available – everything from hillwalking and golf to white water rafting and skiing.

If you love a little adrenalin kick there are also quite a few more adventurous and unusual sports for you to try. Keep reading for our top five daring things to do when staying with us here at Hilton Coylumbridge.

Big Air

You don’t have to go far for this activity, in fact you don’t even have to leave the hotel grounds. Big Air is one of the newest attractions at the Outdoor Discovery Park in Coylumbridge, and definitely one of the most thrilling ones.

You’ll be harnessed to elastic cords, which are attached to 12 metre high poles before you’ll be launched an impressive 14 metres up in the air. The feeling of weightlessness will quickly become a feeling of free-fall that you will want to experience again!

Zip Line Park

This is another activity that involves heights, but it’s not the most extreme one as the minimum age limit is only 5 years an there isn’t a maximum age limit. It’s an outdoor activity company called G2 that organises zip sliding sessions where you start at the top of a gorge and zip line down all the way from one zip slide to the next – with the help of instructors of course.

This is a fantastic way to admire the stunning forest scenery from a bird’s point of view whilst whizzing past magnificent Scot’s Pines. All in all there is 1,5 km of zip wires in the park and the park is located just around a 10-minute drive south from the hotel along the A9.

Adventure White Water River Tubing

River tubing basically involves you sitting in the middle of a big inflated rubber ring and floating down a river. Adventure white water tubing is a more exciting version of this wet activity where you’ll walk up to the top of the rapids and tube down through fast-moving water. You can even repeat the most exciting bits if you like. Sounds like great fun, doesn’t it?

Adventure river tubing sessions are suitable for 12 years and older and can be booked with a company called Full On Adventure located only 5 minutes from Aviemore and Hilton Coylumbridge.

High Ropes

Only minutes away from Hilton Coylumbridge at the beautiful Rothiemurchus Estate you’ll find the exhilarating TreeZone Aerial Adventure Course where you get to experience Aviemore from a squirrel’s point of view. To enter the course you need to be at least 7 years of age and 1.1 m tall.

So what exactly does the adventure course include? It’s a maze of zip wires, hanging platforms, balance beams, tight-ropes, scramble nets, Tarzan swings and white knuckle bridges all set high up in the pine forests of Rothiemurchus Estate. Great activity for an adventurous family day out!

Gorge Walking & Canyoning

This is another thrilling activity by G2 Outdoor that will get you soaked, but it will be worth it! During your gorge walk you’ll be making your way through narrow gorges, plunge pools and water shoots with some climbing involved too.

There are two sites for gorge walking; one on the Alvie Estate just a 10-minute drive from Aviemore and the other more family friendly one, Bridge of Brown, a 30-minute drive from Aviemore. You will be provided with a wet suit, buoyancy aids and a helmet, but you need to bring your own towel, swimsuit and a set of spare trainers.
